Today I’m going to tell you how to set up a role scorecard for hiring so you can compare job candidates side-by-side to make the best hiring decision.
- When you’re going through a big list of people, you need to rely on more than just gut feelings and have some sort of data-driven approach. [01:16]
- A role scorecard lets you compare candidates side-by-side on a scale of 1-10 for pre-defined attributes. [01:28]
- To start, create an Excel spreadsheet and label the first column with different attributes. You can use things like culture fit, skill fit, references, team interviews, etc. You can also use sub-attributes like different core values under culture fit. [01:39]
- For each of the other columns, you can list a candidate and list their scores. At the end, list a total for each candidate so you can compare them side-by-side and make a judgement call. [02:19]
- You don’t have to completely rely on these numbers, they’re just guidelines to follow so you can strike a happy medium between relying on data and gut feelings. [02:41]
- If you’re looking for a template like this, we are coming out with a Growth Everywhere hiring product that will have lots of templates and guide you through different hiring processes so you don’t make some of the same mistakes I did – one of which cost me over $840,000. [03:00]
